Regiments

There's a structure in every battle, and a regiment is a big part of that structure. In a sense, the army of defenders can be broken down into smaller unit that operate on command. If you’re studying the structure of a military unit to help you in your research of military history, you should learn more about regiments. The term regiment comes from the French, who pioneered the formation of small units started in the sixteenth century. A military unit that has a certain structure and a hierarchy of command is a regiment. A lieutenant colonel is the leader of a regiment.

Although they all look the same on formation, the members of a regiment are not all combative in function. Some of the soldiers do more administrative tasks than combat-related tasks. The autonomous way a regiment functions make it a formidable force in any combat. The administrative tasks are as important as the combat related ones, in that they help the regiment function properly.

The combat arm of any regiment is composed of well-trained soldiers who directly takes commands from the commander. The regiment provides its own support in terms of provisions and arms to its combat arm. To say that the members of a regiment are tight is an understatement; they are comrades at arms that depend on each other for survival especially during a time of war.

Even now, a regiment is what a military unit is called. The system functions at its best when there’s a special need to work as a team, such as when small scale police actions are needed. Regiments are deployed when there is a threat of insurgency or terrorism. The leaders of a regiment are trained to coordinate and work with their men to finish the mission assigned to their unit.
